Tyttö nimeltä Varpu
Dir. Selma Vilhunen
Varpu is 12 years old and she has to be an adult not only for herself but also for her depressed mother. The mother, played by Finnish rock-star Paula Vesala, is struggling to recover after divorce, browsing the dating web-sites, forgetting the birthday of her daughter and is coming to her bed at night when it’s dark and scary. Once Varpu decides that things will get better if she manages to get her biological father back. There starts the journey of the two, mother and daughter (brilliantly performed by the debutant Linnea Skog) towards their fears and hopes. World premiere of this film by Oscar nominee Selma Vilhunen took place at Toronto Film Festival.
The film is screened in the original language with subtitles in Belarusian.
