4th Northern Lights Nordic-Baltic Film Festival which will take place on April 19-26 in Minsk this year joins the celebration of the 100th years of independence of the Baltic republics - Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia!
On this occasion, in the program of the festival were included 5 films from three Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia) and 2 workshops by Baltic guests.
The film "Chronicles of Melanie" by Viesturs Kairish (April 22, 19:00 Mir cinema), tells a history of a Latvian woman, Melanie, who was deported from Latvia to Siberia by historical decision of Stalin. This is a story of love, humanity and the miracle of survival in the face of the brutality of exile.
Estonian documentary movie "Soviet hippies" by Terje Toomistu (April 22, 22:00 Mir cinema) show the dreamers from USSR who wanted to have absolutely own freedom. On the presentation of the film will come hippies from Mogilev, whose archives also constitute the story.
Lithuanian poetic and documentary movie is about the various inhabitants of the century-old forest (director Mindaugas Survila) - "The Ancient Woods" (April 23, 19:00 Mir cinema). Another one - "King's shift" (April 25, 21:30 Mir cinema) by Ignas Miskinis (Lithuania) reveals the topic of what does it mean to be a good policeman, or a person in uniform? Style of that movie can remind you about Coen brothers' films and will impress you a lot.
Priit Pääsuke, director from Estonia will present his indie-film "The End of the Сhain" (April 25 at 19:00 Mir cinema).
A big part of the our festival is Industrial platform, within the framework of which there will be totally 8 events, including two free master classes from Latvian and Estonian filmmakers in the Art Academy (St. Chicherina 1).
April 23 at 14:00 - Viesturs Kairysh (Latvia) "Film and theater director: how to find a balance?"
April 24 at 14:00 - Priit Pääsuke (Estonia) "How to raise money for a full-length indie film through crowdfunding and get over the refusal of Arvo Pärt".
Entrance to the master classes is free, but only with pre-registration (for registration - click on the link with the directors' names).
The Opening Gala will take place on 19 April at 6 pm in the Mir cinema (Minsk, 4A Kozlova str.), which is traditionally the main location for the festival activities.
