We are back again! From September 21 to 27, the Nordic-Baltic Film Festival "Northern Lights" will be held online after a long break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the first time at the "Northern Lights” films and workshops will be streamed online via a Belarusian streaming platform designed in collaboration with the festival's partners - mediatech.by.
Now we are working on a creating of a new streaming platform for the Film Festival. We are also developing customized tools for buying tickets, watching movies, and participating in workshops for Belarusian and international audience.
Traditionally, the festival will show feature and documentary films (and for the first time - shorts) from Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. About 20 films in the main program of the 6th Film Festival will touch topics reflecting the new slogan " LISTEN AND HEAR”. The festival team supports Belarusian film makers, so for the first time, an expanded program of young Belarusian cinema will be held at “Northern Lights”.
The slogan and the main message of the Festival-2020 - LISTEN AND HEAR – is more acute than ever in the light of recent events in the world and in Belarus. “Northern Lights” team calls to express empathy and take care of yourself, loved ones and others. We want to focus on the importance of not only listening, but also “hearing”. We want to show that empathy is not about weakness, it is about mutual respect and help.
Especially for the 6th Film Festival, a new visual concept was made, which begins with an art video. An enthusiast of the initiative group " March, baby!” Svetlana Gatalskaya, creative director and writer Vera Filenko together with her daughter and mother, as well as other participants took part in the filming. This year the visual concept of “Northern Lights” let audience get better understanding of such themes as empathy, intimacy, continuity of generations, break down of old behaviour models.
